March has been a very busy month in room 5.
We have been preparing for the ELA MCAS which are this week. Monday we have a practice test with the actual test sessions being on Wednesday and Thursday. Please encourage your child to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. There are all well prepared and should do very well!
We wrapped up our Realistic Fiction Writing Unit with a Publishing Party on Friday. Mrs. Lussier's class joined us to hear all of our fantastic stories. Mrs. Toye and Mrs. Dressler also stopped in.
Our next unit in Writer's Workshop is Poetry. Our read alouds have been 2 of Sharon Creech's books; Love that Dog and Hate that Cat. They are both fabulous stories. We enjoyed them very much .
In Math we have been working on Fractions. www.learnzillion.com is a fantastic resource for parents/students if your child needs some extra help with homework.
We have begun learning about the start of the American Revolution. A couple of our students were able to attend the reenactment of the Boston Massacre. They were fortunate to be participants in the reenactment!! We are so lucky to live in a state with so much history. As Patriot's Day approaches there will be many more opportunities to experience history first hand. I will be sending home information regarding the Patriot's Day activities in Lexington and Concord soon. So many amazing activities to experience!
