This week we started our Math Workshop. The students all gathered in the rug area for the lesson (multiplication patterns : 0s, 1s, 2s,5s, 9s, 10s), then they broke off into small groups .
1. Teacher Directed Mini-lesson
2. Independent Work
3. Game/Fact Practice
The students are doing a great job getting used to the routines and enjoying this format.
In Reader's Workshop we worked on figuring out difficult words in our reading by using a variety of strategies from Chunking words to using Context Clues.
In Writer's Workshop we chose a topic and have started drafting. Mrs. Richards, our Reading Specialist, lead a lesson on 'Showing not Telling" when we draft. She did a fabulous job of getting us excited about drafting and setting us out on the right foot. We loved having her!
In Science we are wrapping up our study on the Solar System. We spent a couple of days learning about the phases of the moon. Our first test will be Thursday, October 6th. A study guide was sent home last week. If you need an extra copy please let me know.
This Thursday night is our Open House. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again.
