Wow, even though April was a quick month we accomplished so many things! Our field trip to the Providence Philharmonic with Mrs. Mac was fantastic. The students completed and presented their research on an historic figure from Massachusetts at our annual Wax Museum and they did an amazing job.
We are working on Personal Essays in Writer's Workshop. The students are writing about subjects that have meaning for them, sports, special people and places in their lives and animals, among other things.
In math we are finishing up a unit on Area and this week we are taking the Mathematics MCAS exam. The children are well prepared. I am confident that they will do well. Please encourage your child to get to bed early and eat a healthy breakfast. We will be ending the year with a unit on division. I anticipate this may be difficult for the students who have yet to master their basic multiplication facts. It is imperative that the students practice their facts in order to develop automaticity and mastery. PLEASE set aside time every day to practice these facts.
In Science we are starting a unit on Living Things that will include plants and butterflies. We are anxiously awaiting the arival of our butterfly larva.
Next week we will begin our annual reading incentive program. Reading daily is such an important activity in all of our children's lives. Please encourage them to read.
Personally, I'd like to thank you all for all of the wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week goodies that we have enjoyed. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
:) Jill
